Leni Robredo calms anxious supporters, volunteers: Just trust, we gave our all | INQUIRER.NET – Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday reassured supporters and volunteers who were getting anxious as Election Day draws near. In an ambush interview, Robredo urged them to be faithful and remember that all of them gave their all during the 90-day nationwide campaign to win the presidency for her and the vice presidency for running mate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, as well as the senatorial bid for the tandem’s slate. Robredo narrated how she and her team and the volunteers were the most hardworking, as they barnstormed as many areas – near and far – across the country and conducted house-to-house efforts at the tail end of the campaign. “Hindi ako kinakabahan kasi ginawa ko naman lahat. Ako na yata ‘yong pinakamasipag […] ’yong nangyayari ngayon so much more than we expected at the start of the campaign. Hindi natin inaasahan na hindi na lang siya magiging simpleng kampanya kundi talagang krusada na and I think ‘yun ang biggest blessing,” Robredo told reporters after her rally in Sorsogon City. (I am not feeling nervous because I did everything I could. I may already have the most hardworking… what’s happening now is so much more than we expected at the start of the campaign. We are not expecting that it would no longer just be a simple campaign but a real crusade already and I think that is the biggest blessing.) “Magtiwala lang, magtiwala lang kasi hindi lang naman ako ang nagsipag, sila din. Hindi lang naman ako ang ginawa ang lahat, pero sila din. ‘Yung lesson naman natin sa buhay basta lalaban tayo to the best of our ability pero sa tamang paraan,” she added. (Just trust, just trust because it’s not only me who worked hard, they too. It’s not only me who did everything, they did everything they could too. Our lesson in life is to just fight to the best of our ability but in the right way.) According to Robredo, there were times when she and her team were so tired but the crowd’s energy pushed them to continue working despite the odds. “So sobrang energized pa. Napapagod pero ‘pag kasama mo na kasi ‘yong mga tao, parang ‘yung energy ng mga tao nalilipat sa amin kaya kahit puyat, kahit pagod, looking forward pa parati sa mga susunod na events. Parang nakakalungkot nga na tapos na bukas dahil naging masaya talaga ang kampanya,” she said. (So, we’re still so energized. Tiring but when you’re already with the people, it seems like the people’s energy is transferred to us so, despite the lack of sleep, and tiredness, we’re always looking forward to the next events. It’s quite saddening that it would end tomorrow because it’s been really a fun campaign.) “Gagawin natin lahat, leaving no stones unturned. Hindi natin gagawin ‘yung mga masasamang ginagawa ng iba, ‘yon naman ‘yong pinaka-mahalaga. Diyos na ang bahala pagkatapos,” she added. (We’ll do everything, leaving no stones unturned. We will not do the dirty tricks being done by others, that’s the most important thing. God will do the rest after this.)
Time for a Bicolano president, Robredo tells supporters in Albay | INQUIRER.NET – At least 77,000 supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo trooped to Sawangan Park in this city Friday during her grand rally, as she assured them that the Bicol region would become progressive if she wins the presidency. “This is how important it is to have a Bicolano president who will solve the problems we are facing. I’m going to prioritize the long and very much awaited PNR project, address the energy crisis, improve internet and telcos connectivity in areas in Bicol, which is very beneficial nowadays, improve ports in Albay, and focus on giving assistance to the agri sector,” Robredo stressed. She said winning the race is very possible as she is witnessing all-out support from Filipinos. “I am very thankful for the vote you gave me in 2016, and I am expecting more votes this time. Please continue doing the house-to-house campaign to combat fake news surfacing in social media,” she said. Robredo said this was the time to have a Bicolano president and that she would let the public feel that the government would always be close to the people. She also thanked all the politicians, even rivals, for being united in support of her presidency.
Robredo spox files cyber libel raps vs Journal staff over article linking them to Sison | PHILSTAR.COM – Barry Gutierrez, spokesperson of Vice President Leni Robredo, filed Friday a cyber libel complaint against six People’s Journal and People’s Journal Tonight staff over an article that claimed that he and the vice president were being advised by Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison on her presidential campaign. In an 11-page complaint, Gutierrez said that the false claims in the article that appeared on Journal News Online, People’s Journal and People’s Journal Tonight “maliciously ascribed and fabricated fictitious acts” to him. These false claims include Sison supposedly being a key contributor to the Robredo campaign and that he is acting as an adviser for Gutierrez and the vice president. Gutierrez was also accused in the article of being involved in the CPP’s “legal front” and was acting as a conduit for talks between Sison and Robredo. “The foregoing are acts that I categorically and strongly deny for these are brazen falsehoods and are nothing but outright lies and malicious prevarications,” Gutierrez said, adding that Journal staffers did not verify with him the accusations in the article. In his complaint, Gutierrez cited the 2008 Supreme Court case Tulfo vs People, where the high court said: “Journalists have a responsibility to report the truth, and in doing so must at least investigate their stories before publication and be able to back up their stories with proof.” “Journalists are not storytellers or novelists who may just spin tales out of fevered imaginings and pass them off as reality,” the SC decision said. “There must be some foundation to their reports; these reports must be warranted by facts.” The Journal story largely based its claims on a supposed statement made by Sison on the CPP’s official publication, Ang Bayan. Ang Bayan, which is available online, does not carry the alleged statement that the Journal news story quoted. Robredo, Gutierrez and Sison have also dismissed the Journal story as fake in separate statements.
