Diesel prices down; gasoline up | PHILSTAR.COM – Prices of diesel are expected to extend its series of rollbacks this week, while those of gasoline could rise for a second straight week. Unioil in its price forecast said motorists should expect fuel prices to have a mixed movement this week. It anticipates diesel prices to go down by P0.35 to P0.45 per liter, while gasoline should increase between P0.45 and P0.70 per liter. Rino Abad, Department of Energy (DOE) Oil Industry Management Bureau director, is also seeing the same trend, projecting that diesel prices could go down by P0.20 to P0.30 per liter and those of gasoline by P0.70 to P0.80 per liter. He also said that kerosene prices could hike by P1.30 to P1.50 per liter. The price adjustments will be announced by oil companies on Monday and will take effect the following day. If the forecasted price movements push through, it will be the fourth consecutive week of rollback in the prices of diesel and a second consecutive increase for gasoline.
‘Barangay chairman’ held over P3.4 million shabu | PHILSTAR.COM – Anti-narcotics agents seized 500 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu valued at P3.4 million from a man reported to be Marawi City barangay chairman during a sting in Quezon City yesterday. Mansawi Lala was arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives in the sting at the corner of EDSA and North Avenue in Barangay Pag-asa shortly before 6 p.m. Lala, who carried an identification card purportedly issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, is being held on charges of drug trafficking. Meanwhile, one of the most wanted drug suspects in Quezon City was arrested in Barangay Bagumbayan at around 10:10 p.m.on Friday. Rogelio Castillo, 42, is allegedly the top drug pushing suspect of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 12. Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, QCPD director, said police initially accosted Castillo while he was asking people to place bets on an illegal numbers game. When frisked, two sachets of undetermined quantities of shabu were seized from him.
2 motorcycle riders dead in separate Batangas road mishaps | INQUIRER.NET – Two motorcycle riders died on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 12 and 13) in separate road accidents in Batangas province, police reports said. Batangas police reported that motorcyclist Theresa Galingan, 48, lost control of her vehicle due to potholes while negotiating a portion of the Nasugbu town national highway in Barangay (village) Bilaran around 1:20 a.m. Sunday. The wayward motorbike consequently hit another motorcycle running ahead and driven by Jommel Dioso. Both motorcycle drivers sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital. Galingan died while receiving treatment at the hospital due to serious head and body injuries. In Calaca town, a ten-wheeler-truck driven by Reynaldo Lirag accidentally hit the motorcycle running ahead of him that was driven by Romeo Villanueva, 42, along the highway of Barangay Lumbang Calzada around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday. The motorcycle rider suffered grave injuries and died while being taken to the Ospital ng Calaca. The police said the concerned parties in both incidents were open to amicable settlements. The report did not state whether or not the fatalities in both incidents were wearing crash helmets for protection as mandated by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
