Armed Forces: Up to PNP to investigate fake memo, alleged destabilization plot | PHILSTAR.COM – The Armed Forces of the Philippines said it will let the Philippine National Police look into a supposedly leaked memorandum claiming police were on high alert due to the resignation of defense department personnel while also assuring the public that things are normal within the uniformed services.
The memorandum that the PNP has disavowed circulated online just hours after the AFP had a change of command ceremony for Gen. Andres Centino, who reassumed his post as military chief months after being replaced.
“The memo did not come from us and the PNP already said the memo is not official so we will leave it up to them to conduct an investigation,” Col. Medel Aguilar, AFP spokesperson, said in Filipino during an interview over Super Radyo DZBB on Sunday.

Thousands of Filipinos march in reverence of Catholic icon | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — Tens of thousands of Catholic faithful walked through the streets of Manila early Sunday in reverence of a historic statue of Jesus Christ, which is believed to have miraculous powers.
The “walk of faith,” which church officials estimated attracted more than 80,000 people, began after a midnight mass for the so-called Black Nazarene statue.
Many Filipinos believe touching or getting close to the statue can lead to the healing of otherwise incurable ailments and other good fortune.

Returning AFP chief tells troops: Stop ‘squabbling’ | INQUIRER.NET – MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Andres Centino, the reappointed chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, called on the military to stop the division and “squabbling” in the ranks as he assumed the highest post in the AFP for the second time on Saturday.
He replaced his military academy classmate Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bacarro, who took over as the country’s top military commander when he was unceremoniously booted out and left in a “floating” status by President Marcos five months earlier.
Neither the President nor Department of Defense officer in charge Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. attended the unconventional change of command ceremony.
The nontraditional rite was held indoors, inside the Tejeros Hall of the AFP Commissioned Officers Club House, instead of the AFP Grandstand. It was over in less than an hour.
