Hefty fuel price rollback seen next week | INQUIRER.NET – MANILA, Philippines — Oil companies may implement a big-time rollback in pump prices next week, according to industry sources.
A source said the price of diesel might decrease by P1.40 to P1.70 per liter and gasoline by 70 centavos to P1 per liter based on the five-day trading average in the global market from Feb. 20 to Feb. 24.
“Diesel should go down by P1.20 to P1.40 per liter. Gasoline should go down by P0.70 to P0.90 per liter,” Unioil said.
Cleanfuel, meanwhile, noted the running trend as of Feb. 23 was a decline of P1.50 per liter for diesel and 90 centavos per liter for gasoline.
The previous week, gasoline and diesel increased by 90 centavos per liter and P1.05 per liter, respectively.
Kerosene fell by 25 centavos per liter. Year-to-date net decrease for diesel is at P1.10 per liter and kerosene at 50 centavos per liter.
On the other hand, gasoline’s net increase is at P6 per liter.
Gov’t intensifies follow-up to multibillion investment pledges | INQUIRER.NET – MANILA, Philippines — The national government is intensifying its efforts to follow-up on investment pledges, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Sunday.
According to the DTI in a statement from the Office of the President, this is in accordance with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s order to ensure that other countries who committed to investing in the Philippines will push through with their plans.
“Ang mga nakuha nating investment pledges ay napakarami at hindi tayo nagtatapos doon. Ang gagawin natin, ay pa-follow up natin yan para matuloy,” said DTI Sec. Alfredo Pascual.
(The investment pledges we have obtained are numerous and we do not end there. What we will do is we will follow up on it to bear fruit.)
“Ang marching order ni Pangulo ay pag ibayuhin ang pagpa-follow up para masigurado yung investment ay maisasagawa nung mga nangako na magpapadala dito o yung mga maglalagay ng investment sa ating bansa,” he added.
(The President’s marching order is to extend the follow-up to ensure that the investment can be carried out by those who promised to send it here or those who will invest in our country.)

Philippines-Aussie military drill launched | PHILSTAR.COM – COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Officials launched a joint Philippine-Australian military exercise at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on Thursday.
The launch of the Philippine-Australian Army-to-Army Exercise 2023-1 was spearheaded by Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Lt. Gen. Andres Centino.
Lt. Gen. Roy Galido of the Western Mindanao Command and Maj. Gen. Alex Rillera of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID) hosted the event.
Marles is also Australia’s defense minister.
“We are honored to host this exercise at Camp Siongco,” Rillera said.
The camp is the command center of the 6ID.
Teen driver charged with homicide | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — An 18-year-old motorist is facing charges of homicide after he figured in an accident in Caloocan City on Wednesday that left a public school teacher and a tricycle driver dead.
John Usher Chua underwent inquest proceedings before the Caloocan prosecutor’s office on Friday on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple counts of homicide, physical injuries and damage to property, city police chief Col. Ruben Lacuesta told The STAR.
Chua is being detained at the Caloocan police headquarters, according to Lacuesta, who added that the cases are without bail.
A medico-legal certificate issued by the Caloocan Medical Center indicated that Chua was not drunk at the time of the accident.
Chua, a senior high school student, was caught on closed-circuit television footage speeding through the intersection of Gen. Malvar and Tirad Pass streets in a sport utility vehicle before crashing into a tricycle and another SUV.
