No survivors in Cessna plane crash in Isabela | PHILSTAR.COMMANILA, Philippines — None of the six passengers onboard the Cessna 206 plane that went missing in January survived the crash, the Isabela Incident Management Team said Thursday.

Constante Foronda, head of the incident management team, said that all six passengers, including the pilot, died from the incident, based on an ABS-CBN livestream of the press conference.

“Sadly, there were no survivors. We delayed this briefing until the relatives of all the passengers and the pilot have been informed,” Foronda said.

Rescue workers dispatched to the location are now working on recovering the bodies, which is expected to take three days.

Foronda added that a former official from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines will be attempting to visit the crash site to investigate the incident.

“Hopefully they can go there themselves so they can see with their own eyes the wreckage and make a more accurate determination and conclusion,” Foronda said.

Remulla says there is conspiracy with 3-4 masterminds in Degamo slay | PHILSTAR.COMMANILA, Philippines — There may be three to four masterminds involved in the brazen killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Thursday.

In a chance interview, Remulla said they are looking at a conspiracy with three to four people as brains behind the crime, adding that this cannot be done by just one person.

“That is what we are studying right now and what will be shown in the statements of [accused],” he said in Filipino.

Four of the suspects, who have also been charged in court, are currently under the protective custody of the National Bureau of Investigation. They have all expressed intention to cooperate with the investigation, as the justice department reviews their statements if they can stand as state witness.

A GMA exclusive report said that Joven Javier and Osmundo Rivero, two accused, have tagged a prominent person behind the attack.

Degamo slay case: ‘Observe sobriety’ with accusations vs Teves — counsel | INQUIRER.NETMANILA, Philippines — Be weary of hurling assertions against Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., warned the congressman’s counsel lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.

Teves was tagged in a series of killings in the province in 2019. Shortly before this, he had denied involvement in the killing of political rival, Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.

“We call on all concerned to observe sobriety in their pronouncements regarding the allegations against Rep. Arni Teves in the face of certain accusations against him in connection with the killing of Governor Roel Degamo and several other persons,” said Topacio.

Teves has already denied the accusations, both for the 2019 killings and Degamo’s slay.

“We shall face any and all accusations consistent with the courses outlined in the legal system, confident that, in the end, our client will be exonerated,” said Topacio.

Environment groups seek to ban ‘forever chemicals’ to end global contamination crisis | INQUIRER.NETMANILA, Philippines — The EcoWaste Coalition and other environmental organizations are seeking to ban the manufacture and use of cancer-causing per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which contaminate the natural environment.

EcoWaste along with Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS), Mother Earth Foundation, Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP), Malaysia, Taiwan Watch Institute (TWI), and the International Pollutants Elimination Network-Southeast and East Asia (IPEN-SEA) conducted a webinar to emphasize the need to ban PFAS.

According to the groups, PFAS are also called toxic “forever chemicals” since these substances do not easily break down or degrade and remain intact in the environment for a very long time.

“PFAS, which are known for their grease and water-resistant properties, are used in making non-stick cookware, greaseproof food packaging, water repellent clothing, stain proof carpets, and upholstery, fire fighting foams, polishes and waxes, paints, coatings and sealants, personal care and cosmetic products, electronics, and more,” the groups in a joint statement issued Thursday.
