Castro: Removal of People Power anniv as holiday part of efforts to revise history? INQUIRER.NETMANILA, Philippines — ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro has questioned Malacañang’s decision not to include the Edsa People Power Revolution’s anniversary in the list of national holidays next year, asking if it was part of a concerted effort to revise the country’s history.

In a statement on Friday, Castro said they could not help but think that the move was in line with the revision of history to favor President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s father, former president Ferdinand Ferdinand Marcos Sr., since there were also changes to how history is being taught.

Marcos Sr., after clinging to power for over two decades marred by allegations of plunder and rights abuses, was unseated by a peaceful revolution that started along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

“First, they changed the curriculum of students by shortening the class time for history lessons and made official the deletion of Philippine history in high school. Second, they tried to dissociate the name Marcos from the term dictatorship by again changing the curriculum,” Castro said.

“Third, the bare wall policy of the Department of Education even banned pictures of our heroes who fought for our freedom and even past presidents of the Philippines to be displayed on walls of classrooms. Lastly, this move not to declare Feb. 25 as a holiday shows that the Marcos administration does not value or even abhors People Power,” she added.

Ex-President Duterte faces raps after threatening Sara critic | INQUIRER.NETFormer President Rodrigo Duterte may be facing his first criminal complaint in the country after leaving Malacañang as Makabayan lawmakers are likely to file charges for his alleged death threat against ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro.

Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas on Thursday condemned the recent remarks by the former chief executive and reminded him that he no longer enjoys immunity from lawsuits.

Duterte is under investigation by the International Criminal Court for allegedly committing crimes against humanity in his drug war.

“Threatening the lives of elected representatives is a blatant violation and a dangerous attack on the rights of individuals who are merely pushing for transparency and accountability in government spending,” Brosas said in a statement, referring to the controversial confidential fund request by his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Castro, who is mourning over the death of her father, did not issue any statement.

DOJ fails to serve subpoena to ex-LTFRB aide over address error | PHILSTAR.COMMANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported on Friday that the subpoena intended for former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) executive assistant Jeff Tumbado cannot be served due to an inaccurate address.

The Anti-Graft division of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) issued a subpoena to Tumbado, who previously served as an aide to the suspended LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.

The subpoena was not delivered because Tumbado’s address in his affidavit was wrong, according to the DOJ.

“This will delay the process a little bit as he was supposed to appear on Monday if he had put the right address,” DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano said.

The NBI is currently preparing a revised subpoena with the correct address.
