‘Like Arya Stark’: De Lima ready with list of jailers | INQUIRER.NET – Sen. Leila de Lima said on Saturday she would soon submit to the United States the list of her persecutors in connection with its decision to ban the entry of Philippine officials involved in her detention. The senator, however, said the list was “recommendatory” and that she would defer to the US government whether to release a final list. De Lima said the names of her persecutors had been in her head even before the United States issued its decision, likening it to the kill list of a character in the popular TV show “Game of Thrones.”
Probe into Safe Philippines CCTV project sought | PHILSTAR.COM – Sen. Leila de Lima on Sunday is calling for an inquiry into the Safe Philippines Project, a planned CCTV surveillance system that will be put up in Metro Manila and in Davao City, saying the China-funded project may have risks to national security. Prior to De Lima filing Senate Resolution 275, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto filed a similar resolution as early as January of 2019.
Devotees may still get near Black Nazarene during ‘Traslacion’ | Manila Bulletin – Some devotees of the Black Nazarene were disappointed when they were unable to go near the image during its Thanksgiving Procession last December 31. But this won’t be the case during the annual “Traslacion” procession of the Nazareno on January 9. Father Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of Quiapo Church, said devotees won’t be prevented from going near and touching the image on its carriage.
95K passengers throng ports as holidays end | The Manila Times – More than 95,000 sea travelers flock different ports all over the country as the Yuletide season officially ends on Sunday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Latest monitoring of the PCG said a total of 95,359 outbound passengers were recorded as of 6 a.m. Saturday, January 4. PCG spokesman Capt. Armand Balilo noted that the passengers were those who celebrated Christmas and New Year in their respective provinces. He said they were returning because the Holiday break officially ends on Monday, when class will resume for students.
