Ex-President Duterte may be arrested as easily as Teves, says Trillanes | INQUIRER.NETMANILA, Philippines — The recent arrest of expelled Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. is an “example” of how former President Rodrigo Duterte would be nabbed should the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue an order for it, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday

In a tweet on Friday, Trillanes said this would be the case “if the ICC warrant is also passed through Interpol.”

“This is an obligation of an Interpol member state like the Philippines,” he said on Friday.

“Like what was done to Teves, when Interpol handed down its ‘red notice’ or international warrant of arrest to the Timor-Leste police, it did not question the validity of the red notice but immediately arrested Teves,” Trillanes added in Filipino.

‘Zero credibility, grossly ignorant’

In a message to INQUIRER.net, Duterte’s camp refuted Trillanes’ remarks.

Teves to face charges in PH, assures Marcos | INQUIRER.NETMANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed Friday that former lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr. will face justice in the Philippines.

In a post on X, Marcos commended the arrest of Teves, who was arrested Thursday while playing at a golf driving range in the capital, Dili of Timor Leste, where he had sought asylum.

“I commend the collaborative efforts of our law enforcement agencies and our international partners in the successful arrest of former congressman Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr. in Timor-Leste,” Marcos said.

“Rest assured that the government will take all necessary actions to bring him back to the country so he can face the charges filed against him. I assure the Filipino people that we will spare no effort in ensuring that justice will prevail in this case,” added the President.

Teves’ arrest was sought through an Interpol red notice, requesting police worldwide to locate and apprehend him.

The former Negros Oriental representative is facing murder charges in connection with the killings of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight other people, including some seeking aid at his home in Pamplona town in March last year. At least 17 others, including a doctor and two army soldiers, were wounded in the attack, according to police.

Vatican releases decree affirming Lipa apparition ‘not supernatural’ | PHILSTAR.COMMANILA, Philippines — The Holy See this week released the “long-hidden” document which declared the alleged apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lipa, Batangas in 1948 not supernatural.

In a circular released by the Archdiocese of Lipa on Tuesday, Archbishop Gilbert Garcera said that the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) has released a copy of the May 1951 decree regarding the verdict of the alleged Lipa apparition, also known as the Our Lady of Mediatrix of All Graces.

“By order of the Most Holy Father’s will: The apostolic delegate is to authorize the apostolic administrator to issue a document from the Curia in which it is declared that the events of Lipa, after serious examination, turns out not to have a supernatural origin and character,” the 1951 Vatican decree read.

The Vatican ruling was endorsed during an audience with Pope Pius XII on March 29, 1951, and was confirmed by Cardinal Victor Fernandez, the current DDF prefect under Pope Francis.

According to the archdiocese’s circular, the decree was unveiled after a “fervent request” of Kalookan Bishop and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines President Pablo Virgilio David.
