Carlos Yulo’s coach to get P10 million from PAGCOR; Yulo gets P20 million | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairperson Alejandro Tengco on Tuesday announced that gymnast Carlos Yulo will get P20 million for winning two gold medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
During the deliberations for PAGCOR’s proposed 2025 budget at the House of Representatives, Tengco said that Yulo’s trainer and coach will also receive P10 million in cash incentives for his two gold medal finishes in the men’s vault exercise finals and the vault exercise finals.
The release of cash incentives to athletes who win major international sports competitions is mandated by Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, which provides a P10 million reward for gold medalists.
The law requires the cash incentives to come from PAGCOR, chargeable against its National Sports Development Fund.
“As provided by law, for the gold medalists, PAGCOR is mandated to give an athlete who wins a gold P10 million. So since he has two golds, Mr. Yulo will get P20 million. I have not announced this in public, so this is the first time,” Tengco said.

Immigration lookout issued vs Harry Roque, 11 others | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued an immigration lookout bulletin order against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque and 11 other individuals allegedly linked to the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators in Porac, Pampanga.
Aside from Roque, the following individuals were also placed on the bulletin:
- Former Technology and Livelihood Resource Center chief Dennis Cunanan
- Cassandra Ong, the “authorized representative” of the raided POGO Lucky South 99
- Xiang Tan
- Jing Gu
- Stephanie Mascareñas
- Michael Bryce Mascareñas
- Zhang Jie
- Duanren Wu
- Raymund Co
- Randel Co
- Han Gao
Purpose of the bulletin
Justice Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano explained that the lookout bulletin was issued to “protect the integrity of the investigation” despite no charges being filed yet.
“The main goal here is to protect the integrity of the investigation. We don’t want the investigation to be disrupted or for someone to suddenly leave without us knowing,” Clavano said in a mix of English and Filipino.
A bulletin is a directive to immigration authorities to monitor individuals from leaving, typically those who are subjects of ongoing investigations or legal cases. It differs from a hold departure order, which is a court-issued directive preventing an individual from leaving the country.

400 AFP personnel assigned to VP Duterte’s security group – spox | INQUIRER.NET – MANILA, Philippines — Around 400 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel are under Vice President Sara Duterte’s security and protection group, according to spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla.
“Around 400 plus remained in terms of AFP personnel,” Padilla said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
She explained that the increase in the number of Duterte’s security detail members was due to the fact that the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) is now under the Presidential Security Command (PSC).
This was in compliance with an assignment of unit order issued by AFP on July 9, designating the VPSPG-AFP as a “subordinate unit” of the PSC.
Padilla added that the deployment of personnel and their requirement for every engagement depends on Security Task Action Group commanders.

Carlos Yulo addresses rift with mom over money, girlfriend | INQUIRER.NET – Team Philippines double gold medalist Carlos Yulo clarified the root cause of the rift with his mother Angelica Yulo in a controversy that spread like wildfire following his historic campaign in the Paris Olympics 2024.
Yulo, sitting beside his girlfriend Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, addressed the issue directly in a Tiktok video, saying that his mother Angelica allegedly had not disclosed to him all the withdrawals she had made from his bank accounts that she had been handling on his behalf.
Yulo said that his mother had been handling his finances–which included all the allowances and incentives from his victories–until he decided to take over the bank account.
“Apart from the incentives, my mom also had access to my bank account and my monthly allowances for gymnastics. When I finally got control of that bank account, I found out she had been draining it. I have the bank statements showing the withdrawals she made,” Yulo said in Filipino.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo earlier this week, Angelica Yulo detailed her dealings regarding his son’s finances, making financial moves–including withdrawing money from Carlos’ account to transfer to hers–which she said was to safeguard the star gymnast’s future.
“So, it was given to me. As a mother, I felt that my child might run out of money in the future,” Angelica said in Filipino. “So, what I did was deposit it under my name at BPI here in Vito Cruz. Then, I held on to it and turned it into a bond for a credit card.”
Carlos Yulo, though, said he wouldn’t even have known that he had early received his incentives–singling out his campaign in the 2022 World Championships where he took home two medals–if he hadn’t come looking for them.
