Taal Volcano trembles more, spews lava 800 meters high | INQUIRER.NET – TAGAYTAY, Philippines — Taal Volcano spewed lava into the sky and trembled constantly Tuesday, possibly portending a bigger and more dangerous eruption, as tens of thousands of people fled villages darkened and blanketed by heavy ash. The volcano was spurting fountains of red-hot lava 800 meters (half a mile) into the sky, and the massive column of ash and volcanic debris at times lit up with streaks of lightning. The alert level since the eruption began Sunday has been 4, indicating a hazardous eruption is possible in hours to days. Level 5, the highest, means such an eruption is underway.

Robredo brings relief goods to Taal | Manila Bulletin – Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday visited residents of Batangas who were affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano to provide them with relief assistance from her office and private partners. Robredo started her visit to the province with a briefing at 1 p.m from officials at the Fernando Air Base in Lipa, Batangas. Task Force Taal head Brig. Gen. Marceliano Teofilo, Batangas Vice Gov. Mark Leviste, and other military and local officials briefed her about the situation on the ground. She then proceeded to the old municipal covered court in the municipality of Sta. Teresita to check on the condition of the displaced victims there and give them aid from her office’s Angat Buhay foundation and its partner organizations.
Volcanic ash could trigger ailments, DoH warns | The Manila Times – Prolonged exposure to the ash spewed by Taal Volcano could lead to a number of ailments, the Department of Health (DoH) warned on Monday. The department said exposure to volcanic ash and gases could cause nose and throat irritation, coughing, bronchitis-like illness, discomfort while breathing, eye irritation and minor skin problems. “If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said in a statement.
