Consider yourself lucky to see a Hollywood “monster” the next time you go to the mall or watch a horror movie in a theater — when quarantine restrictions have been lifted, of course. Maybe Pennywise? Yes, that menacing clown in the 2017 movie adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel It.
Let me introduce you to Prince De Guzman, a YouTuber, who is known as the horror cosplayer. He has dressed up as Pennywise and Valak from The Nun. He is scary enough as Pennywise, terrorizing both adults and kids in theaters and officers — he has visited ABS-CBN and scared the network’s staff and celebrities.
Prince is also a model, actor, and a professional events host. His YouTube channel “Prince De Guzman Transformations” showcases his scary creations. He shares his talent and love for monsters and ghouls through his ghoulish transformations. He got his big break when he transformed into Pennywise, got noticed by Warner Brothers, and appeared in their booth in ToyCon 2017. His channel now has almost 800,000 subscribers.
Prince believes that online platform is the future. It is a surprisingly fair ground since one can be an actor, director, and producer at the same time. But obstacles abound. For Prince, the biggest obstacle is oneself, especially self-doubts. One should not cower and back down, and should look back on why one started in the first place.
Since he started, Prince was able to invest in a small house. His contents and the efforts paid off. He credits his family, friends, and a supportive community that believed and inspired him. He intends to hone his craft in the art and dabble more in marketing this 2020. Prince leaves an inspiring message for content creators: Money and fame should not be the driving factors, but they should do what they love and what they enjoy doing.
The next time you hear the bone-chilling laugh of Pennywise or see the spine-tinging stare of Valak, it may be Prince De Guzman doing what he is passionate about.
