Netflix has announced that it will be streaming the animated feature film Hayop Ka: The Nimfa Dimaano Story on October 29, 2020 with much anticipation from aspiring Filipino animators and indie movie fans.
Hayop Ka is directed by Avid Liongoren, director of Manila Film Festival entry Saving Sally. Liongoren dedicates the film to Filipino animators in the country.
The voices behind the characters are big names in the entertainment industry: Nimfa is voiced by Angelica Panganiban, Roger is voiced by Robin Padilla, and Iñigo is voiced by Sam Milby. The comedy animated film also features Empoy Marquez, Arci Muñoz, Eugene Domingo, Yeng Constantino, Moira dela Torre, Joyce Bernal, Claudia Enriquez, and Juliene Mendoza.
What may pique the interest of viewers is the fact that the characters in the story are anthropomorphized animals or animals that are given human attributes. Hayop revolves on the familiar plot of a love triangle: Nimfa Dimaano is torn between her boyfriend Roger (an aspin janitor with his street smarts and love for street food) and Iñigo (a husky businessman, charming and, well, rich). Who will Nimfa choose? What will weigh more on Nimfa’s mind — love or ambition?
Hayop is an indication that Philippine animation is alive and continues to grow, and that aspiring animators have a chance to show their skills to a wider audience. It gives Filipino animators the attention they deserve. Let’s do our part and support our Filipino creative. Watch Hayop Ka: The Nimfa Dimaano Story on Netflix on October 29, 2020. Mark your calendars.
