President Duterte fires BUCOR Director General Nicanor Faeldon on September 4, 2019 during a Press Conference at Heroes Hall, Malacanang Palace. The grounds cited were the aborted release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez and the release through the RA 10592 (Good Conduct Time Allowance) of convicted prisoners for heinous crimes.
In the same press conference, Duterte cleared Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Sal Panelo for the latter’s issuance of referral to the Board of Pardon and Parole of the Sanchez’ clemency application.
Duterte further pronounced that the released convicted prisoners must report back to the New Bilibid Prison within a three-day period.
