Court finds ‘undue haste’ in securities case vs Rappler, orders preliminary investigation | INQUIRER.NET – The Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159 suspended proceedings in the illegal securities sale case against online news site Rappler and remanded the case to prosecutors for preliminary investigation. It explained that “undue haste” in the filing of criminal charges violated the rights of the accused to due process.
What is PET Rule 65 and why are Robredo’s lawyers bringing it up? | PHILSTAR.COM – Rule 65 under the PET Rules is under the Initial Determination of the Grounds for Protest. It provides, among others, that the Presidential Election Tribunal (PET) may order the protestant to pick at most three provinces “best exemplifying the frauds or irregularities alleged in his petition.” The revision or recount will then begin. It further provides that, “If upon examination of such ballots and proof, and after making reasonable allowances into account, the protestant or counter-protestant will most probably fail to make out his case, the protest may forthwith be dismissed, without further consideration of other provinces mentioned in the protest”.
Gas prices to go up | The Manila Times – There will be changes in fuel prices on 15 October. The cost of gasoline go up by 25 centavos, there will be 10 centavos rollback for diesel, and 40 centavos roll back for kerosene.
BOC taps into organizational assessment system as part of reform program | Manila Bulletin – The Bureau of Customs has enrolled itself with the Performance Governance System (PGS) of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA). Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said, “the bureau’s enrollment to the PGS is part of the agency’s programs on good governance and anti-graft and corruption”.
