OSHC: Free online training for MSME safety officers

The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) is offering a series of free online Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training via Zoom for future safety officers in micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that have less than 50 employees, the Labor Department said on Saturday.
To provide service for both the public and private sectors amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the OSHC developed modules for the mandatory training to allow the migration of training services to an online platform and enable the provision of these services while ensuring the protection of training participants and resource persons. OSHC is an agency of DOLE.
All mandatory BOSH training now includes a module on the prevention and control of Covid-19.
The webinar is open for Safety Officers Level 1 (SO1s) in MSMEs in the low-risk category and includes a 10-hour training for potential safety officers that will implement safety and health programs in their respective companies.
The qualified participants are required to use laptop or desktop computers equipped with a webcam and microphone and a stable internet connection.
The project, introduced as early as June, has lined up 13 more batches of free online trainings until December.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has brought economic difficulties and we want to help equip companies, especially the distressed small and micro enterprises to keep their workers and workplaces safe and healthy,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center Executive Director Noel C. Binag, CE.
Other enterprises that will not be able to take part in the free online BOSH trainings may avail training services from DOLE-accredited Safety Training Organizations (STOs) which are certified to perform the same quality of training from OSHC.
OSHC will also launch another series of free online BOSH Training for safety officers in government agencies upon the issuance of CSC-DOH-DOLE Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 series of 2020 or the Guidelines on Occupational Health Standards for the Public Sector. The first batch of the free webinars for the public sector will be conducted on September 14-18, 2020.
