BUCOR Director General Nicanor Faeldon appears before the Senate’s Blue Ribbon Committee and the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. Faeldon appearance is in connection with the public uproar on the reported impending release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez who was convicted for the Sarmenta-Gomez rape-slay and the controversial implementation of Republic Act 10592 (Good Conduct Time Allowance). The Senate’s hearing centered on why convicts involved in heinous crimes were able to avail of the GCTA inspite of explicit disqualification under the said law.
It was learned that Faeldon signed the Memorandum for the release of Antonio Sanchez while convicts in the rape-slay of the Chiong sisters in Cebu were released based on the same RA 10592.
Relatedly, Senator Hontiveros asked Faeldon during the Senate hearing if he intends to resign and he replied that I believe no ma’am.”
