Meriam Santiago Abueva, a senior flight attendant at Philippine Airlines is now doing masonry and carpentry works for the construction of their three-storey apartment building.
According to Erwin Conrad Abueva’s facebook post, “Walang kaarte-arte sa katawan pagdating sa construction works.”
Her husband, Erwin, a pilot and a doctor at the same time mentioned that cabin crews and airline industry are greatly affected by pandemic and his wife make herself productive by helping with the completion of their rental business. “To make herself more productive, she does some masonry and carpentry works at the construction site. She does not mind the dirt and the physical stress. She amazes me every day!”
Due to this pandemic, Meriam and Erwin had limited income and were forced to hire less workers. She decided to make her move to help finish the jobs faster. According to her statement at FlyhighMNNL, “We started that project with not enough money to finish the construction. Konti lang tao. So malaking tulong if gagalaw ako. Nasa rental kasi kami nag- iinvest,”
“Pamilyar na talaga ako sa construction. Dahil konti nga ang funds, para makatipid, lahat ng kaya ko itulong ginagawa ko. Magbuhat, maglinis at pati na nga sa labor works. And isa pa, gusto ko ipakita sa kanila na kaya ko kaya walang dahilan para di nila kayanin at di sila gumalaw at mag ayos ng trabaho,” she added.
