It’s 2020 and the pandemic caused by Covid19 is forcing schools to go for online learning, and one teacher sees an opportunity. Let me introduce you to Teacherella Diaries on YouTube and on Facebook.

Jelly Matchubar is the young teacher behind the Teacherella Diaries. She graduated from the Philippine Normal University with a degree in Secondary Education major in English and taught in Lourdes School Quezon City on her first year of teaching.

Teacher Jelly set up the YouTube channel soon after and her first video focused on animations. Then she created educational videos for students, teachers, and employees alike. She vlogs about writing, training, business, and also studying. Her channel now has almost 100 videos and 19,000 subscribers.

She also started a small business in 2019 and opened a physical store in a mall. When the pandemic affected her business and cancelled her plans to teach abroad, she went back to creating vlogs again for her YouTube channel.

People started noticing Teacherella’s presence on Youtube, and because she continued to strive and create educational videos, she eventually achieved the thousands of subscribers. She has her family, friends, and supporters to thank for this milestone.

“I’m still in the process of making my network grow but I definitely celebrate small victories and milestones in my channel,” she added.

Two milestones include seeing her videos getting aired in LRT trains and inking a contract with an international company.

Her message for students and teachers? “This is a very challenging time for all of us. I salute Filipino teachers for doing their very best and for really sacrificing a lot of things just to perform their duty as educators.”

She also mentioned that students and teachers should learn to face virtual learning with patience and consideration, and rest if necessary.

The shift from traditional to online learning may be difficult but we have Teacherella and many other teachers in the Philippines who strive to equip students with proper knowledge that will help them succeed.
