DOH, PGH budgets hiked; palace ‘pork’ up | INQUIRER – There’s good and bad news about the P4.1-trillion general appropriations bill (GAB) that the House of Representatives transmitted to the Senate on Tuesday, according to opposition lawmakers. The good news is that the Department of Education (DepEd) got additional funding and the cut in the proposed budget of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has been restored.
Senate panel jails ‘ninja cop’ chief | PHILIPPINE STAR – For “lying” and being “evasive,” the Senate yesterday cited in contempt a police officer who led the controversial raid in November 2013 in Pampanga where he and his men allegedly kept over 160 kilos of shabu taken from a trafficker and sold the drugs on the streets. Members of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee unanimously voted to detain police Maj. Rodney Baloyo IV in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
DILG probes Albayalde | MANILA TIMES – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday confirmed that Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde is under investigation for his alleged attempt to meddle in a probe against rogue cops involved in drug recycling. “We support the PNP chief, but that doesn’t mean we will not make a fair and thorough investigation,” DILG spokesman Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said in a chance interview.
Stronger PH-Russia ties vowed | MANILA BULLETIN – President Duterte and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev vowed to further strengthen the bilateral relations of the Philippines and Russia as the two countries committed to sustain the momentum of their ties since Duterte’s last visit in 2017. In his opening remarks during their bilateral meeting, Duterte told Medvedev that both the Philippines and Russia witnessed how the bilateral relations between the two countries improved over the last three years.
