West Philippine Sea: Chinese Navy inexperienced in war – PH Navy spox | INQUIRER.NET – MANILA, Philippines — Following the deployment of a Chinese aircraft carrier in the Philippine Sea, an official of the Philippine Navy on Sunday said China’s Navy lacks experience in war.
Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, the Navy spokesperson on the West Philippine Sea, even compared the Asian Superpower to the United States, which he claimed still encounters issues even with “seven or eight decades” of experience in war.
“Ito sa PLA (People’s Liberation Army) Navy hindi pa nasubok sa giyera ito and yet kung mag-aaasta sila akala mo talagang ano, so sinabi ko sa ating mga kababayan marami pa silang kakaining bigas. Bagamat advance sila sa atin pero matagal pa bago nila maabot ang operational level ng aircraft carriers nila,” Trinidad said in an interview over DZBB.
(The PLA Navy has not yet been tested in war and they act as if they are something. So I told our compatriots that the PLA Navy are still inexperienced. Although they are more advanced than us, it will be a long time before they reach the operational level of their aircraft carriers.)
Trinidad also explained China’s “doctrine” and why they act that way in the region.
“Mas maintindihan natin ‘yung galaw ng China kapag alam natin ang pag-iisip nila patungkol sa giyera. Ang kanilang mga doctrine, number one, kapag malakas ka ipakita mo mahina ka; number two, kapag mahina ka ipakita mo malakas ka, mag-ingay ka,” he said.
(We can better understand China’s moves if we know their thinking about war. Their doctrines are number one, if you are strong, show you are weak; number two, if you are weak, show you are strong, say it.)

Alleged Trump shooter filmed on roof with rifle – TMZ video | INQUIRER.NET – BUTLER, United States — A gunman lays on his stomach on a rooftop with a rifle in hand, then screams ring out, a video published by US outlet TMZ on Saturday shows.
US presidential candidate Donald Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt by a gunman at a campaign rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The FBI identified the gunman, who was shot dead by the US Secret Service, as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from the US state’s Bethel Park, according to US media.
The video published by TMZ shows the alleged shooter laying on his belly on a rooftop and aiming a rifle.
“The guy has longer brown hair, and he seems to be wearing a grey shirt/khaki pants — and as you can see, he’s carefully trying pinpoint a target from afar before pulling the trigger,” TMZ reported.
The man is not shown firing in the published footage. But a quick succession of gunshots is heard followed by screams from people off-camera.

No security threat at President Marcos’ SONA – PNP | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — No security threat has been monitored in connection with the third State of the Nation Address of President Marcos, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday, after Vice President Sara Duterte’s pronouncement that she is the “designated survivor” and would thus skip the SONA.
With all security measures in place, PNP public information officer Col. Jean Fajardo said there is nothing to worry about when Marcos delivers his address at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City on July 22.
Duterte’s remarks of being the designated survivor drew flak from different sectors as it hints at scenarios of a possible mass casualty event which could sow fear among the public.
In the United States, a designated survivor is a person in the presidential line of succession who is kept at an undisclosed location from other officials who are gathered during a public event such as a State of the Union Address.
The move is to ensure continuity in the presidency if the president, vice president and others in the line of succession are killed in a terror attack or other catastrophic events.
Even if they have not monitored any threat, Fajardo said the PNP remains on guard to thwart any attempt to disrupt the SONA.
Intelligence gathering and monitoring are ongoing by all security forces, particularly the Armed Forces of the Philippines, she added.

Senate nabs Guo’s former accountant | PHILSTAR.COM – MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have taken into custody suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s former accountant on Saturday afternoon following the Senate’s arrest order against the mayor and several others.
The Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA) announced on Saturday that their team apprehended Nancy Gamo, the accountant of Guo and her family, around 1 p.m.
However, they were unable to locate the suspended mayor at her address in Bamban and the other locations indicated in the upper chamber’s arrest order.
Meanwhile, Gamo underwent a medical checkup after being brought to the Senate.
She was in good medical condition, according to the OSAA.
Gamo will remain in Senate’s custody until the inquiry into the raided Philippine Overseas Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bamban resumes.
On July 13, the Senate ordered the arrest of Guo and her family after being cited in contempt due to their non-appearance to the investigations on the alleged criminal activities involving the POGOs in the mayor’s locality.
