DA orders BFAR to conduct water quality tests at Taal Lake | INQUIRER.NET – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has been instructed to conduct water quality tests at Taal Lake following the heavy ashfall from the Taal Volcano’s activity, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Wednesday. In a statement, Agriculture Secretary William Dar gave the instruction to BFAR Director Eduardo Gongona to test if the water was contaminated with sulfur and other toxic materials.

A total of 12 municipalities and two cities were named in the document signed by DILG Calabarzon OIC Provincial Director Abigail Andres. These are the towns of Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Cuenca, Laurel, Lemery, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, San Nicolas, Sta. Teresita, Taal and Talisay. Also included were the cities of Lipa and Tanauan.
Coast Guard, Batangas police bar residents from eruption-affected areas | Manila Bulletin – The authorities barred residents and other people from returning to their homes on Taal Island and heavily affected towns on Wednesday following the volcanic eruption. Reports said that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) had prevented people from returning to the Island for their safety. The Batangas Provincial Police set up blockades in San Nicolas, Agoncillo, and Talisay towns to prevent residents and other people from entering the areas due to the hazardous ash fall.

The difference, the study suggests, reflects the body’s response to evolutionary pressures.
