1Sambayan to announce senatorial picks ‘soon’ | PHILSTAR.COM – Opposition coalition 1Sambayan said it will “soon” make public their chosen senatorial candidates for next year’s polls. In a statement Friday, 1Sambayan vowed to “unconditionally” support the ticket of Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. But the coalition said it “will soon announce the name of senatorial candidates that it will support for the 2022 national elections.” 1Sambayan issued the statement after Robredo bared an 11-man senatorial lineup for the 2022 elections. These include Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Leila De Lima, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno. Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri, Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero and lawyer Alex Lacson are also in Robredo’s picks for senators. She said that she wants the 12th candidate in her ticket to be a representative of the marginalized sector. Among the “four or five” nominees for this slot are former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares and Federation of Free Workers president Sonny Matula. “We support VP Leni in her continued effort to seek unity among political parties and among the people, and to ensure that the Leni-Kiko ticket represents the pro-democracy forces and the people’s desire for leaders with the qualities of tapat na pagkatao, mahusay na pinuno and marami nang nagawa,” 1Sambayan said. It added its objective is to build a slate “representing the broadest possible coalition.”
Robredo wants 12th candidate in Senate slate to be from marginalized sector | INQUIRER.NET – Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo on Friday said she wants the 12th member of her 2022 Senate slate candidate to “represent the marginalized sector” and that Bayan Muna chairperson and former Rep. Neri Colmenares and labor leader Sonny Matula are being considered. Robredo also announced the 11 candidates included in her senatorial slate for next year’s elections, which includes “rivals” former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV. “Kung napapansin nyo yung number 12 wala pa. ‘Yung number 12 gusto sana namin who will best represent the marginalized sectors,” Robredo said. (If you will notice, the 12th slot is still vacant. We want the 12th candidate to be someone who will best represent the marginalized sectors.) “We have a number of nominees already pero gusto sana namin hindi ito desisyon ko lang… Gusto natin bigyan ng mas maraming boses yung mas maraming tao at niru-run by natin ito sa groups na nakikiisa sa atin,” she added. (We have a number of nominees already but I should not be the only one to decide on this. We want to hear the voice of more people who are one with us.)
Robredo bothered that Duque wasn’t consulted on ‘green’ countries policy change | Manila Bulletin – Vice President Leni Robredo finds it bothersome that Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III was not consulted in the Inter-Agency Task Force’s (IATF) recent decision to waive the quarantine retirement for vaccinated travellers coming from so-called “green” countries. Robredo, speaking in a press conference Friday, Oct. 15, said the IATF is supposed to be the government’s “clearing house” for health policies in connection with the persisting coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. “Yung nakakagulat lang, ito yung bothersome sa akin, yung statement ni Secretary Duque na he was not consulted. So ang isip ko noon, papaano nangyari yun? (What’s surprising and bothersome to me is Secretary Duque’s statement that he wasn’t consulted. So my thought was, how did that happen?)” Robredo asked. “Siya yung supposedly head ng DOH tapos may isang health measure na gagawin tapos hindi mo alam (He’s supposedly the head of the DOH and then there’s this new health measure that you don’t know about),” noted the presidential aspirant.
