Phivolcs records 700 aftershocks after 6.9 quake in Mindanao | INQUIRER.NET – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday recorded 700 aftershocks after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Davao del Sur. “Out of the 700, 70 were reported felt, hence many aftershocks are minor,” Solidum said. Of the 700, the highest magnitude recorded was at 5.2 which is considered moderate, Solidum noted. The Phivolcs director also said they expect “more aftershocks to occur in the next several days to weeks.”

Solon files freedom of information bill, urges creation of information commission | Manila Bulletin – Quezon City Representative Alfred Vargas has revived discussions on the Freedom of Information issue by filing a new measure proposing the passage of an enabling law on the said constitutional right of Filipinos. Vargas recently said the constitutional provision on the right of access to information requires an enabling law that should have been passed immediately after the ratification of the 1987 Constitution. He filed House Bill No. 5776 or “An Act Enabling the People’s Constitutional Right of Access to Information” and appealed to the House leadership to prioritize the measure.
