3 of 11 soldiers killed in Sulu hacked by Abu Sayyaf – military | INQUIRER.NET – Three of the 11 soldiers killed in a fierce gunfight with Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Patikul, Sulu, on Friday (April 17) were hacked. According to Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command chief, the three soldiers were finished off by the terrorists that way even as they also tried to behead one officer who was killed, 1st Lt. Rogelio Deligero Jr. “Their faces are beyond recognition,” a somber Sobejana told the Inquirer.
Philippines Graphic website hacked; editor slams ‘crime against free speech’ | PHILSTAR.COM – The website of Philippines Graphic, known as the longest-running weekly news and literary magazine in the country, was hacked “by still unknown parties” on Saturday. Editor-in-chief Joel Pablo Salud on Saturday morning said the website had been hacked and all their online articles would redirect to porn sites upon being clicked. “I condemn in the strongest possible terms those who are behind this crime against free speech. Whoever is behind this only revealed their true nature. Rest assured that our team is doing the best it can to remedy the situation at the soonest possible time,” read Salud’s post.
Solon urges DOLE to probe case of ‘abandoned’ construction workers | Manila Bulletin – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has been urged to probe and penalize Cecon Corporation for supposedly leaving its workers on its construction sites in Pasig City without food, and for violating the country’s minimum wage law. In a statement, ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Niña Taduran said upon personally checking the situation of the abandoned construction workers, she was informed by Junrel dela Cruz, spokesperson of the construction workers, that a laborer’s daily wage amounts to ₱375 a day, while a carpenter gets ₱475 from Cecon through its subcontractors.
Frontliner killed after truck slams into bike in Manila | The Manila Times – A doctor was killed after a 10-wheeler truck slammed into the rear of her bicycle, Manila police reported on Friday. Ma. Teresa Dajao, 54, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Maynila. According to the Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit, Dajao was traveling along President Elpidio Quirino Avenue corner West Zamora Street in Pandacan District at about 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday when the accident happened. The truck driver, identified as Jeffrey Domingo, 36, was arrested, but was released after the victim’s family said they would not press charges.
