Colleges, universities outside Taal’s danger zone to resume classes | INQUIRER.NET – Classes for students in colleges, technical and vocational schools, and universities in the province of Batangas that are outside the Taal Volcano’s 14-kilometer danger zone will resume Thursday, Jan. 23. In a memorandum signed Wednesday, Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas ordered the resumption of classes in all schools in the tertiary level outside the 14-km danger zone.
Bato dela Rosa says the US has canceled his visa | PHILSTAR.COM – Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Wednesday confirmed that the United States has canceled his visa, a possibility that had been raised by a provision in the US budget law for 2020 banning detained Sen. Leila De Lima’s jailers from America. The US Senate has also passed a resolution invoking the Global Magnitsky Act and calling on US President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Philippine officials involved in the detention of De Lima and and in alleged extrajudicial killings in the conduct of the government’s crackdown against illegal drugs.
Two contenders for PNP chief given new posts | Manila Bulletin – The appointment of Gen. Archie Gamboa as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has triggered a movement in the top posts of the police organization. Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan is now designated as the PNP’s number two man, or Deputy Chief for Administration, the post vacated by Gamboa. Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, on the other hand, is now the Deputy Chief for Operations, or number three man of the police organization. He assumed the post previously occupied by Cascolan.
