In 2018, Leonard Santiago was at the peak of her career when lupus hit her hard.
She was diagnosed that she has lupus when she was 15 years old. She continued to live her life as a normal person until the time that she needed to slow down.
When asked what causes lupus, “actually, based sa studies ay wala pa talagang specific answer kung ano talaga ang pinagmulan but mostly these are hereditary, or it can be the environment, it can be an exposure to a certain drug na nagko-cause ng lupus kapag inistop iyong drug na yun puwedeng mawala ang lupus or mag-silent si lupus or it can be stress.”
Currently, there is an active support group for lupus and auto-immune disease patients called “Live, Love, and Hope,” which Leonard founded in 2016. Ang Pinoy asked Loenard on how important it is to have a support group and she replied, “very important.”
