Many hair experts believe that your hair condition is a reflection of your health. It can tell you whether you are consuming essential nutrients that your body requires. Taking care of our hair is as important as any other part of our body.
Here are some superb habits from Bright Side to protect your hair, help it grow healthy, and prevent damage that might lead to further problems:
1. Do not wash your hair too often. It will remove too much oil from your scalp that your hair needs for nutrition and growth.
2. Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfate is one of the most harmful agents that strips your hair of its natural moisture.
3. Dry your hair well before you go to sleep so you won’t have a bad hair day when you wake up.
4. Massage your scalp every day with a wooden-bristle brush to activate blood circulation and encourage hair growth.
5. Do not blow-dry your hair too often. Let it air dry naturally, or use a blow-dry lotion or a leave-in conditioner to protect your hair from heat.
6. Avoid heat stylers such as hot straighteners or curling irons. Never use them without a spray-in heat protectant for high-temperature devices weaken the fibers of your hair.
7. Do not brush your hair when it’s wet for it’s susceptible to breaking. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb while in the shower after you apply your hair conditioner.
8. Do not dye or bleach your hair. Dyes contain harsh chemicals like ammonia that causes significant damage to the hair and may cause scalp burns.
9. Use a satin or silk pillowcase for your bed. This material will reduce the damage to your hair because it won’t pull and catch it like regular pillowcases do when you toss and turn during the night.
10. If you have damaged hair and split ends, trim your hair every eight weeks to keep it healthy.
11. Stress damages your hair more. Take care of yourself by reducing your stress levels.
12. Eat well. Your hair needs protein, natural fats, and vitamins in your diet.
