The pandemic left people with little or no choice but to stay at home, affecting not only their personal lives but businesses as well. Physical stores are subjected to strict health guidelines such as setting up transparent barriers between the store staff and customers which incurs extra costs for the store owner. Despite this, Filipinos, being adaptive and creative as they have always been, have found ways to conform to the new normal.
Business owners have turned to different social media platforms to market their products and services to potential buyers, enabling businesses to keep operating. Facebook’s Marketplace allows its users to sell items easily by just posting the photo of the product along with its details and price. It became a go-to place that caters to anyone and if you don’t know where to go, you might find yourself overwhelmed with all the products being offered.
There are Facebook groups designated to specific locations, and specific items. Some groups were created by one seller or distributor so that their customers and re-sellers will only have to visit the group to purchase their items. Some groups were set in public so people can access posts within the group but are not allowed to comment or post.
Meanwhile, some were private and requires answering questions before an administrator approves your request to join. These administrators ensure that posts are relevant to the group and rules are being followed.
These Facebook groups have allowed business owners and individuals to start their businesses as soon as possible. It gives both customers and sellers better communication and faster transactions. We may be restricted from going to our favorite stores during the pandemic, but these Facebook groups allow us to purchase the items that we need. The increasing number of buy and sell groups proves that no matter what the situation is, people will find ways to adapt and continue to strive.
